Pomme de terre August/September 08

From Pomme de Terre Sept 08

We decided after the last trip in April to Pomme de Terre that we needed to go again. Again, we had a blast. even though it was Labor day weekend the lake was not crowded and we were able to do everything that we wanted to do. Swimming, Fishing, Boat riding and Exploring. What a blast. 4 days of fun in the sun. The fishing was not as good this time around so we spent a lot of time in the water. The water temp was perfect as was the weather. Not a drop of rain. We arrived late in the afternoon on Friday and set up camp, put the boat in and cooked dinner. We fished from the bank on Friday evening but didn't catch anything. Saturday we got up and after breakfast we headed out in the boat. We spent probably 3 hours fishing and decided to go boat riding instead. After lunch, we headed for the beach. The beach was only about 3-4 minutes away from the campsite by water, so of course we took the boat and not the truck! Several hours were spent just hanging out in the water and on the beach. The kids loved it, as did Amy and I. I took some great photo's at the beach. (just trying to be like my sister the professional photographer.....she would be so proud of me...) Check out the photo's, I think they are really good! Saturday night we grilled some Pork chops and made some potatos over the fire. YUMMM, everybody liked Amy's new way of cooking potatos (diced and soaked with butter, garlic and onion. wrapped in foil on the grille) We got the idea from some of our best friends (the Cooks) After supper we tried our luck again with fishing at the campsite. No luck, so we just hung out at the campfire and sang songs and roasted marshmallows. Sunday Amy wanted to sleep in, so I got out early and did a little fishing by my self.....no luck again. I think the fish were on vacation as well. After church we decided to go on a long boat ride in search of some fish......well, we went on a long boat ride anyway.....still no fish. Let's swim instead..... We ended up on the Island to go exploring. There is not supposed to be any camping on the island, but you can tell people have before. Very clean Island, no trash at all! That's one of the things we love about this place. There had obviously been a camp fire there at one time because we found a fire ring made out of rocks. I told the kids that it was probably left from some earlier settlers "back in the old days" of course they believed me. I love it!!!!. Not too long after that we saw the remains of a pretty good size fish on the beach. I told them it was the remains of a prehistoric fish. They believed that too. They are so much fun to tease........these days won't last forever so we need to enjoy them now...right?!? Plus, think of the memories they will have of that! After the Island exploration we went back to the campsite and went ........Yup you guessed it.......swimming again! Jimmy and I (with life jackets on) swam all the way across the cove to the other side. Monday we went to the beach again and just hung our until about 1:00 and then it was time to start packing up.....booo hoooo..... Check out the caterpillar that Jimmy found while we were packing up. It made it home with us and is now either dead or in a cocoon, I can't tell which. Guess we'll find out soon enough. CHECK OUT THE PIC'S

Monster Trucks Rally

From Monster Truck Rally
We were able to take the kids to their first monster truck rally (mine too) this summer. We kept it a secret for a whole week from them. Bekah figured it out when we were getting close because of the signs (luckily Jimmy can't read yet!) She was a good big sister and continued to keep it a secret until we got there. On the way to the grandstands the announcer said "the monster trucks will be starting in about 45 minutes" and Jimmy just took off running and screaming!! He was so excited. Bekah on the other hand was hoping for something different. I think by the time it was all over she did have a good time as well. Everybody knows that Jimmy loves monster trucks. He plays with them all the time and watches the same video over and over. This was a big deal to him. We were all impressed with the motorcycle stunts. I bet they were every bit of 30 feet in the air. Very Cool! The mud drags were kinda boring after the first 3 or 4 races but Jimmy enjoyed them anyway. Rebeka and Jimmy both had to have a checkered flag to get autographs. I'm pretty sure we have every signature from every competitor (some maybe twice). I was able to get a couple of really cool shots of the kids when they were being "wowed" Be sure to check them out!

First Day of School

From First Day of School

Well, It finally happened! Jimmy has started School. Boo Hoo!!!!! He was so excited about his first day. New cloths and a new Spiderman backpack and we are ready to go. His big sister was more than enough help on his first day. She had to "show him the ropes", and boy did she ever! Everything from where to come into the building to how to properly open and close your milk at breakfast. Check out the pictures and the captions to see him go. Mom and Dad were excited for him as well, although it was kinda sad too. I'm sure we looked like a couple of dorks walking around the school with a video camera and a regular camera. Just gotta get those memories though!
